Gradus: hypertrophy programs, from coach to athlete
A product of our own. Coaches plan training on the web, athletes follow it on their iPhone, and every set they log makes its way back to the coach.

The problem
Most hypertrophy coaches still write programs in spreadsheets and chase results through notes and chat messages. A spreadsheet can't express a superset, a top set with back-offs or a drop set cleanly, and knowing how many sets each muscle gets per week means doing the maths by hand.
What we built
- Coach web app Coaches manage their athletes and build mesocycles in a grid editor: drag exercises around, copy and paste like in a spreadsheet, and reuse exercises and templates from their own library. Supersets, giant sets, circuits, top sets with back-offs, drop sets, rest-pause, myo-reps and clusters are all supported, and each week can be prescribed by RIR, RPE, % of 1RM or absolute load.
- iPhone app for athletes Gradus Atleta walks the athlete through each session with a rest timer and logs every set, along with daily check-ins, body measurements, progress photos and macros. It works with no signal and syncs as soon as the phone is back online, without ever creating duplicates.
- Planned versus completed volume For every muscle and every week, the coach sees the sets planned next to the sets actually done, warm-ups excluded, alongside each exercise's progress.
- Permissions enforced by the database Only the coach writes the program and only the athlete writes the logs, so neither can overwrite the other. Row Level Security enforces this in the database itself. Logic shared by the web and iOS apps runs in Postgres and is covered by pgTAP tests, and the few rules the phone needs offline are checked against the same test cases on both platforms.
Status
Web app, iPhone app and backend in nine days.
We started on October 8, 2026. Gradus is now in beta: the coach app is live at gradus-trainer.binarybuilders.dev, with a free plan and paid plans whose limits are enforced by the database.
Timeline
First commit on October 8, 2026, beta on October 16. Around 150 commits and 20 database migrations in between.
Stack
Web: React, TypeScript, Vite, TanStack Router and Query, Tailwind CSS, hosted on Cloudflare. iOS: SwiftUI. Backend: Supabase (Postgres, Auth, Row Level Security, Edge Functions), tested with pgTAP.
